Week 1 in July

15 minutes)
Objective: Introduces Kindergarteners and First grade children to
the letters and sounds of the alphabet with fun hand motions.

Activity 1 with Nursery Rhyme:
Introduce Mother Goose (10 minutes)
Teacher says, "Welcome to the world of Mother Goose. A time to
learn how to rhyme and get very loose! We are going to learn fun stories
about fun things and people too. Get ready, get seated, and let's
get to it!

Teacher says, "Today's nursery rhyme is Little Bo Peep!"
Let's read it together. Ready, Set, Read!
Make sure you point to each word with your finger or fun pointer as
you are reading the nursery rhyme.

Directions for Teacher:
Each day chose a boy and girl that gets the special task of pointing
to the words of the nursery rhyme of the day! The class will chant

another child and have them point to the words of the nursery rhyme
and than second time say it very loudly!
(Please use your star sticks * to help chose a boy and girl! Star
sticks-will be in your tub with the names of each child in your class!

It Out! (20 minutes)
Directions: Use *star sticks to get children into small groups of
3 to 5 children. Make sure VBS college intern, VBS high school intern,
and incoming high school youth are the leaders of the groups.
Each group should be given an index card that says "Beginning,
Middle, or End!" The group will come up with hand motions and
gestures to bring their part of the nursery rhyme alive and for everyone
to practice. (Group time should be about 3 to 4 minutes)
Teacher says to get the attention of small group for performance for
children says, "Lights. Camera. Action. Everyone let's take a
look and listen to me. I need for Group __ to come to the front and
the rest of you need to be a good audience by listening and watching
what the group does."
