Patrice London Thomas is a thirty-three year old urban woman who lives with her children in a public housing project in Houston, Texas. Life there is not easy. But then life has never been easy for her. At nine, she suffered third degree burns over thirty-two percent of her body when a water heater exploded in her home. She says of the scars on her arms and face that she "just had to adjust and accept them". When she was eighteen, her two year old daughter, who was being cared for by others, died from abuse and neglect. She describes that event as the "greatest sorrow' of her life.
But Patrice's story is not a tragedy. In 2001, a friend invited her to church. She heard there a message of love and grace that she thought was too good to be true but that she learned is true. So she became a Christian and began reading her Bible every day. The more she thought about what she was reading, the more excited she became. Her life changed.
She has written poetry every day since becoming a Christian, explaining that she wanted to express to others the things she was experiencing. The poems that comprise this book are from the heart of a gentle, Christian woman who has lived a difficult life that would have crushed and embittered most people. We think you will be inspired by what you read.
